Plea For Release
Christopher was in great pain. His last words were a plea to be released
from suffering. His closest friends gathered to discuss his request.
"It just doesn't feel right. You can explain all you want, but I can't agree because it feels wrong," said Sally. It wasn't as though she didn't know the issues. They had been over and over all of the options.
Her husband Alan was frustrated and complained, "I'm tired of your boo-hurrah approach to problems. You feel good about something and it's right. It makes you feel bad and it's wrong. Thinking it through is painful but we all know suffering is a bad thing. I mean, if she had good days and bad days it might be tough to decide, but just suffering day after day with no good days, no pleasure. I mean, what's the point?"
Edward countered, "Do unto other as you would have them do. Would you have it as a rule that anytime someone suffers, the plug be pulled?"
Jerome was clear on the matter saying, "Life is sacred. God says it's wrong to kill, wrong to commit suicide. It's in God's hands."
Edward criticized them all, "You are talking about him as though he is dead! Don't treat him as a means to fulfill your ends of satifying your own moral dilemnas. He made his decision."
Anne said, "Life is painful. So choose. Do or don't. Suffer the consequences. It's all pointless."
